Soundscapes of War – Listening to the Lost Heritage

“Soundscapes of War – Listening to the Lost Heritage” explores the auditory dimensions of loss and resistance through the screening and discussion of “Войси з Бахмута” / “Voice Messages from Bakhmut” (Ukraine, Lithuania, 2023). This 15-minute short film presents a poignant narrative set in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, in 2022, capturing an attempt to restore intimacy despite the distance imposed by war. Through real-time voice messages from a female correspondent stationed in a front-line city, the film constructs a deeply personal and immersive soundscape of war. The screening will be followed by a discussion on the role of sound and visuals in imaging and imagining war, tracing lost heritage, and fostering emotional connections across war zones. It aims to provide insight into the human experience of war, encouraging critical dialogue on memory and resilience.
