“Anni Albers, Textile Origins, and Weaving as a Modern Project”
Anni Albers began her career as a novice in the Bauhaus Weaving Workshop in Weimar in 1923. Buffeted by the social, political, and economic turbulence of her times she found order and sys-tem in the art of temporally and geographically distant cultures and a creative process that had remained fundamentally unchanged over thou-sands of years. My talk will attempt to trace the creative journey that tied the examples of early Andean weavers of Peru to Anni Albers’s own practice as a twentieth century artist.
Brenda Danilowitz ist Kunsthistorikerin und seit 1999 leitende Kuratorin der Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. Sie hat Kunstgeschichte in Südafrika unterrichtet, sowie an der Yale Uni-versity und den Universitäten von Hartford und Connecticut. Seit 1989 ist sie Kuratorin an der Albers Foundation, von wo aus sie zahlreiche Ausstellungen und Publikationen realisiert hat.
