Sjoukje van der Meulen erhielt ihren MA- und PhD am Institut für Kunstgeschichte und der School of Architecture der Columbia University in New York (1998/2009). Sie lebte für 15 Jahre in den USA, wo sie an der Columbia University, der University of Illinois in Chicago und der University of Oregon lehrte. Sie war außerdem Dozentin am Institut für Medienwissenschaft der Universität Amsterdam, Teilnehmerin des kuratorischen Programms De Appel, Editorin von Metropolis M und co-Chefredakteurin von Stedelijk Studies, der akademischen Online-Zeitschrift des Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Als Vorsitzende der europäischen Arbeitsgruppe der Niederländischen Sozialdemokratischen Partei (PvdA) leitete sie Konferenzen und Workshops zu Themen wie „Die Zukunft der Eurozone“ und „Migrationskrise“, unter anderem mit Unterstützung der S & D im Europäischen Parlament. Zurzeit ist sie Dozentin für moderne und zeitgenössische Kunst an der Universität von Utrecht. Während der Rudolf Arnheim Gastprofessur wird sich Dr. van der Meulen auf ihren Forschungsbereich der zeitgenössischen europäischen Kunst seit dem Vertrag von Maastricht (1992) konzentrieren, wozu sie bereits eine Ausgabe der Stedelijk Studies mitherausgegeben hat: „The Borders of Europe“ (Die Grenzen Europas) unter https: / /stedelijkstudies.com / edition-6-the-grenzen-von-europa /
Sjoukje van der Meulen received her MA and PhD degrees from Columbia University’s Department of Art History and School of Architecture respectively (1998/2009). She lived in the United States for 15 years, where she taught at Columbia University (New York), the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Oregon. She was also a lecturer at the Media Studies department of the University of Amsterdam, a participant of De Appel curatorial program, editor of Metropolis M, and co-editor in chief of Stedelijk Studies, the online academic journal of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. She was chair of the European working group of the Dutch Social Democratic Party (PvdA), for which she led conferences and workshops on topics such as “The Future of the Eurozone,” and the “Migration Crisis,” with support from, among others, the S&D in the European Parliament. She is currently Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at Utrecht University. During the Rudolf Arnheim guest professorship, Dr. van der Meulen focuses on her research area of contemporary European art since the Maastricht Treaty (1992), on which she also co-edited an issue for Stedelijk Studies: “The Borders of Europe,” available at https: / /stedelijkstudies.com / edition-6-the-borders-of-europe/
