Workshop “Controversial Cartoons”

Workshop “Controversial Cartoons”

A strange feature in the ongoing strife over depictions of Muhammad is that very few commentators on any side of the debate seem to have taken much interest in the actual appearance, structure and claims of the contested drawings and their relations to other currents of the caricature tradition. After the recent Charlie Hebdo massacre it seems obvious to take a closer look at some of the images at the center of the controversies.
