By establishing the Chair of Art and New Media in 2011, the Department strengthened its academic programme and research profile in the field of contemporary art, exhibition history and methodology and intensified its commitment to the study of new media, such as photography, video, film and computer generated imagery.
The work of the group focuses on questions of the history of art and science, art and law, architectural interiors and spatial representations and the use of images in political conflicts. Special attention is paid to current issues of national and international exhibition practices. The dense network of galleries, project spaces and institutions of contemporary art in Berlin and the surrounding area offers a unique opportunity for teaching and research at the interface between theory and practice.
